The Tipping Point

I think The Tipping Point, was a really good form of reference to look back at.  The law of the few is broken down to “80/20 Principle, which is the idea that in any situation roughly 80 percent of the 'work' will be done by 20 percent of the participants.” The people can be described as:
Connectors: they usually know people across an array of social, cultural, professional, and economic circles, and make a habit of introducing people who work or live in different circles, or as I like to call them social people, talkative people, they to me are usually the ones who get in trouble in class for speaking too much.
Mavens: people we rely upon to connect us with new information. These are the news outfits, professors, researchers are some of the common examples for now a day.
Salesmen: these are persuaders, people with powerful negotiation skills. Honestly the name of this category of says it all, think of them as the people who are hell-bent on selling you that warranty when you know that the product will outlive it, but they somehow convince you that YOU NEED IT.

I think that this is something that is essential for society to function. Without salesmen, I personally feel that people would be all the same. If everyone thought the same, one that is a utopia and as we all know, or should know that it doesn’t work. It would also make for a very boring society. Without Mavens how would the public be informed? As Thomas Jefferson said, “knowledge is power.” Without Mavens society wouldn’t be able to make informed decisions, opinions and actions. It’s like trying to make the argument that the sky is green. If there wasn’t someone who scientifically proved that the sky is blue and had an outlet to inform the public, one everyone would think that the sky is green or that the ones who see it blue have a disease. We as a society wouldn’t be able to form our strong pinon on things such as politics if we didn’t have all the details to form them. Now if we don’t have a source we don’t have a story. Sorry that was the reporter in me saying this. Without connectors, I don’t think that society or even me as a person I would function. Connectors are the eyes and ears of society. They are the ones who have the story, information or knowledge that people seek. I mean let's take this easy example as one. If someone wanted to learn more about the LGBTQ community and doesn’t have a friend who is part of the community, what do they do, because books can only do so much and to some people, books just don’t do things justice. You would need a connector to put you in touch with someone who is part of the community, a support group, anyone to teach, and through the experience that they face they will pass on their knowledge and what they learned.
I could keep going on and on but I honestly think you should check out The Tipping Point

Meet My Friends

As you go through your time in college you make some really amazing friends. Most of them are going to be in your major. Others aren't and that is what makes it so much fun.

We'll start off with a friend that I am most proud of Rachel West we meet in TV1 and she was one of the top students in the class. Now she's still enrolled at UF but she got an amazing opportunity to do an internship with the Tampa Bay Rays and shes currently there but shell be back for graduation....hopefully.

Next, we have Lauren Staff we were partners for TV2 and we suffered every Tuesday to get a story, she will also be graduating in the fall. She loves to cover gymnastics. I believe that she will go really far.

This next girl was one of the first friends that I made in my time at UF, Tessa Bentulan shes wants to be an Entertainment Reporter like me. She's gone so far during her time at UF and I'm honestly so proud of her.

Movies

I enjoy movies as much as the next girl. As a little girl, it was something that bonded me and my brother along with my mother. Dad came sometimes when he wasn't too tired from work, but for the most, it was just me, big bro and mom. It almost became a tradition. Growing up with an older brother, of course, I wanted to copy him in every aspect. I mean. how can you not when he's all that you have to role model yourself and look up to? I'm not going to sugarcoat it, my big brother is a full-on nerd, playing computer video games 24 hours straight.... and really into superhero movies, not comic books but you know enough to tell the difference between the different types so of course, we saw the different Marvel movies. As I grew up more and more mom bowed out of taking us to the movies so it was just me and Chris doing this.  Chris is now moved away and doesn't come down often so I really haven't had the  courage to see the lastest Marvel movies. I mean today the new Avengers: Endgame trailer came out. I havent seen the movie previous to this I think thats because I think in my sick and twisted mind it's like a confirmation that the times I had as a child are now over. We're both full grown adults who are separated not only by distance but in priorities. I'm not sure... I don't know where to go from here.

COLLEGE SCANDAL

I mean if you havent heard about thecollege scandal yet, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!?!?!?!?!! I wont bore you with the details you can find that on your own. I think its ridiculous the extreme that these parnets are going to. I mean there is something that was always engraved into my head by dad. "Whoever has the money thats great, i'm not enviouse, if you have it great and if you dont all well great" But sis I mean how much more of an advantage do you need? You will already have an advantage over half the population and will live an extrodonary life. Do you really need to pay millions of dollars JUST so you can say you graduated from YALE?!?!?!? I'm honestly just so disappointed in this

FrIdAy NiGhT

With trying to juggle work, school, shifts at the station I need to create time for myself. I need to remember that it's my last semster in college thats it. After this term i'm done and I'm an adult...... ughhh such a scary thought. I have to take time to make more nights like this one. I think that I need to slow down and enjoy my last couple of nights like this. I think I may even have another one like this.

Don't Make Me Think

I think Don’t’ Make Me Think wasn’t the best model to follow for a younger professional or even a website for a younger audience. I think the best way to make a website is to make it a reflection of yourself. One of the only reasons why someone is checking out your website is because they know it is associated with you. This means that someone believes in you and your message and your brand so much that they are welling to see what else you offer.

That to me is the only thing. As long as you are true to your brand and your image and the website reflects that then you are doing fine. A couple of other “housekeeping” things to make a website successful is easy navigation. No one wants to be looking around a website for a hundred years looking for one thing. An easy way to clearly see what the public/viewer is looking for is the best route.

One more thing that is important to have on a website is a contact us portion of the page. It’s important because it allows the viewer to have a place to either praise you for the work that you have done or offer them a chance to “vent” the issues that they are facing. The most important part is to never place your personal phone number on it. If your website is based off a business place the office location and phone number. If your website is like a blog create a separate email that is dedicated to the blog and add a link to the email.

Back to branding and your website. It needs to be you. You cannot be an energetic and creative person that you portray to the public and then have your website be very boring. It needs to reflect you. Personally, I believe a website is a larger Instagram. It needs to have a color scheme and a variety of photos. Now I understand “my website isn’t about clothes or selling things” in a sense yes it. You are selling yourself to the public. But regardless, almost everything in the website needs to have an image. Even if it just to set the vide, mood, feeling of that specific page. A lot of people are visual people so having an image of something will only help you out in the end and not hurt you.

The final thing to make your website successful is to attach any and every social media to your website. We live in an age where your social media holds more weight than your resume. If you have a big following in social media companies are more likely to take a second look at you than others, because you can bring a good amount of new audience to that company. So, you always have to have your social media up to date, and up to “brand”. Always connect your Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest (if you are a blogger, fashion, food, arts, culture icon), and LinkedIn.

Confession Time

Okay so its not a serect that I am graduating this semster from UF. For the longest time I always knew that I wanted my life to be in-front of the camera. Then I narrowed it down to doing entertainment. Heres the thing theres no entertainment track here to study so literally its either news or sports. Dont get me wrong I like sports and I know it, just not enough to report on it play by play. So that leaves me in news..... and I hate it. I've been thinking what if down the line I dont want want to do this any more? I mean right now I feel like I dont want to do this anymore. But I mean I've come this far, for pete's sake I 'm graduating this semster!! UUUGGHHHHHH I dont know what to do. I'm scared to completely be an adult. I don't want to graduate and leave the amazing friends and sisters I've meet. I clearly don't do well with change.

Big/Little Pt.1

This semester I have the wonderful opportunity to take on a little.  It's time to expand our family.  I mean look at us
who would not want to be a part of this gorgous family. It was honesly one of the happiest days that I can remeber. Let me explain what this means. When you first join greek life you can choose your big. This is the person who is suppose to mentor you and show you the way of not only the sorority but about everything. They are there to answer any questions you have, and to be there for you as a sibling, hence the term big sister or big brother.  The process is meant to be a secret and it is the most nerve-racking thing I've experienced. This is only the start stay tuned for an update...

Work n' School

Being forced to pay your way through school sucks. I get that not everyone is financially stable to support their kids moving away and everything else that they need. But when you see everyone around you going out and you're stuck at work its horrible. I suppose that its what everyone wants and by everyone I mean jobs right? That's what I'm told.  I guess that it makes you look more responsible trying to juggle everything right? It doesn't sound like I just went to college to drink and meet people. It's honestly me being salty I'll have to get over it because sadly I'm part of the percentage that has to pay their way through college.

Introducing Me

Hi!
My name is Vanessa Villalobos. Born and raised in the 305 Miami area. I came to the University of Florida as a transfer student to study Telecommunication News. As to why I decided to come here, to make a long story short, it's in-state, closish to home and I mean its No.8 in top Telecommunications Colleges so why not come here. I am currently in my final year a.k.a senior year baby, honestly, though I'm way too terrified because that means that I will have to start adulting so soon and I'm not ready to be an adult. As you can tell by the title of this blog I'm in a sorority at UF, Gamma Phi Beta. It was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Now, I know what your wondering. What in the world is this and what did I just click on. So basically this is about surviving and trying to juggle college, sorority, work, and yourself. I personally I always wished that I had some sort of like Neds Declassified: School Survival Guide. I know being a 90's baby had its perks like old Disney, CartoonNetwork, and Nickelodeon.

I wanted to tell at least my side of trying to balance it. Trying to find the right balance of adulting and being a child, something I never plan on giving up. I promise you it won't be like me complaining about things because that's boring. Instead, I'm thinking something along the lines of here's what happened here are the results and how could it have been done differently. Cool? Cool.

If you ever have any personal questions you would like me to answer feel free to shoot me an email.
